Living Water Rescue

Living Water Rescue

One of the things I love the most about following Christ is that He has a fantastic sense of humor. Although admittedly, when He is trying to teach me patience through a situation, I’m often not very amused 😀  But what I’m noticing here more and more lately, is that God is taking the every day challenges my husband and I face and turning them into these powerful life lessons relating to His Word and His heart.  This lesson?  We will call it “Living Water Rescue.”

our cat dizzyMy inspiration this time?  Well… have a look at this photo.  The innocent face all curled up in her blanket is Miss “Dizzy.”  She’s our resident bad girl who is very territorial about her home space and doesn’t appreciate the abandoned strays my husband and I have been feeding in the back yard.

Enter in here the challenge Holy Spirit used to speak to my spirit a very profound message that I’d like to share with you.

The Moral Of The Story…

Dizzy had taken her usual little stroll outside for a few hours and returned back in with a look of shock on her face.  According to the vet who saw her yesterday, she has injured her foot pretty severely with an infection to boot.  So much so that she is unable to put any weight at all on it and it’s causing her a great deal of agony.

Of course this means, mom and dad being the suckers we are, have been pampering her senseless (even more so than usual).  Because she is immobile, I got her water fountain and plugged it in nearby so that I could place it next to her face, enabling her to drink.  I knew she had to be thirsty. It had been at least 18-24 hours since she had a drink.  What I didn’t realize was how thirsty this girl was! Most importantly, she didn’t know how thirsty she was!

When the water was near her, the look on her face was one of dire need, frantic to get a taste.  Even in the midst of her agony, she stretched just to reach her head far enough into the stream of water pouring down.  She began lapping up all that she could stand, for at least several minutes.  After she could not contain any more, she laid back down fully satiated, relaxed and content.

And THAT is when Holy Spirit spoke so clearly to me…

Come! Drink Of MY Living Water

John 4:5-14 (TPT) – Jesus and the Samaritan Woman

(At The Well)

Jesus arrived at the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son, Joseph, long ago. 6–8 Wearied by his long journey, he sat on the edge of Jacob’s well. He sent his disciples into the village to buy food, for it was already afternoon.

Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink of water.”

Surprised, she said, “Why would a Jewish man ask a Samaritan woman for a drink of water?”

10 Jesus replied, “If you only knew who I am and the gift that God wants to give you—you’d ask me for a drink, and I would give to you living water.”

11 The woman replied, “But sir, you don’t even have a bucket and this well is very deep. So where do you find this ‘living water’? 12 Do you really think that you are greater than our ancestor Jacob who dug this well and drank from it himself, along with his children and livestock?”

13 Jesus answered, “If you drink from Jacob’s well you’ll be thirsty again and again, 14 but if anyone drinks the living water I give them, they will never thirst again and will be forever satisfied! For when you drink the water I give you it becomes a gushing fountain of the Holy Spirit, springing up and flooding you with endless life!”

John 7:37-39 (TPT)

Rivers of Living Water

37 Then on the most important day of the feast, the last day, Jesus stood and shouted out to the crowds—“All you thirsty ones, come to me! Come to me and drink! 38 Believe in me so that rivers of living water will burst out from within you, flowing from your innermost being, just like the Scripture says!”

39 Jesus was prophesying about the Holy Spirit that believers were being prepared to receive. But the Holy Spirit had not yet been poured out upon them, because Jesus had not yet been unveiled in his full splendor.

living waterWhat Do You Thirst For?

In the same way Dizzy was frantic and desperate to get that taste of water – so should we be with Jesus and His Living Water.  Anything less will continue to leave a void.  There will always be a dissatisfaction, a feeling of time lost.

Dizzy didn’t know how thirsty she was until she drank.  Neither do we.  We fill our lives with senseless time killers that leave us more empty than we began.  All the while our Lord is calling us….COME!  Come drink of My Living Water.  You will never thirst again.  Don’t feel empty any more.  You don’t have to feel lost.  Don’t numb your mind in any way that you can find to do it.  You are dying of thirst for My love, My presence and My power but you don’t even know how much.  Come!  Taste and see that I AM good.

(Psalm 34:8 Drink deeply of the pleasures of this God. Experience for yourself the joyous mercies he gives to all who turn to hide themselves in Him.)

All of the endless searching we do, it all leads to dead ends.  The only true, lasting fulfillment we will ever find is in the relationship we have with Jesus.  Holy Spirit is our comforter.  He is our counselor.  All wisdom, knowledge and revelation come from Him.

All the other good things we enjoy in our lives?  Well, those are blessings from a God who loves us and loves to see us smile.

(John 14:26 But when the Father sends the Spirit of Holiness, the One like me who sets you free, he will teach you all things in my name. And he will inspire you to remember every word that I’ve told you.)

The Lord says, “Will you be like Dizzy?  Are you in dire need of a drink from Me?  Will you allow me to satisfy your every need, leaving you with nothing but contentment and wholeness?  Will you stretch yourself, even in your agony, to come get a taste that will leave you longing for more?  Holy Spirit wants to fill you to overflow.  Being in overflow yourself enables you to impact other’s lives that need the same drink from God you just received.  That’s the beauty of His nature.

Come… And Thirst No More

Have you ever noticed that we tend to act and think a lot like the ones we spend the most time around?  How many times have you heard, “(insert name here) is really rubbing off on you!”

It’s no different when we spend time in the presence of the Lord.  He uses our lives to shape and mold us to be more like His image.  But one of the most powerful things we can do is simply to spend time in His presence, to allow Him to “rub off on us.”  Soaking in His Living Water, allowing the glory of God to saturate our beings until every empty place is filled with His goodness and love.

The thirstier you are, the more water He has for you.  There is no such thing as drinking too much.  This is one time when being a glutton is a very good thing 🙂

What God does, He does with perfection.  Every good and perfect gift is from above.

James 1:17 (TPT)

17 Every gift God freely gives us is good and perfect, streaming down from the Father of lights, who shines from the heavens with no hidden shadow or darkness and is never subject to change.
